Stefanie’s Story

“The swimsuits are my babies…and just like a baby, each design has a name.”

Picture this: bikini swimsuits in vibrant colors that just ooze coolness.

Plenty of 15-year-old Broward girls would want suits like this, and at nearby Cardinal Gibbons High School, many of them do. Today one of those girls was at Jypsea Local with her mother, bringing back a suit made from Jypsea’s “dream-sea-cle” fabric.

The problem? The girl’s father preferred that the suit cover more of his 15-year-old daughter. So Stefanie is making necessary adjustments. “I’ll just adjust it. It’s not a big deal,” said Stefanie.

Stefanie Holtzheuser isn’t all that far removed from understanding a high school girl’s mindset. Back when she was one herself, she grew weary of the store-bought bikinis with their inevitable sagging bottoms and ill-fitting tops.

“My thinking was that if swimsuits were problematic for me, they had to be that way for others. So I grabbed that untapped window of opportunity. I took the suits that I already had and deconstructed them; saving the good parts to create patterns and make great fitting suits for me and then for my friends. Then, I hunted for the best four-way stretch fabric in exciting colors and patterns.

The idea catapulted to selling them through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, a website and now my own store at 2711 E. Commercial Blvd. I have taken many of my custom ideas and included them in the standard designs.

The standard Jypsea colors are black, nude, red, pink, olive, leopard and camouflage, but my best seller is the turquoise blue fish scale pattern called Seavasana. I recently added original artwork from local artists to screen print my designs. Then there are the matching necklaces, headbands, beach bags and towels for a total look.

This has become the cool place to get swim suits. I’ve seen high school girls with Jypsea stickers on their school folders. But Jypsea suits aren’t just for teens, they are for any woman who wants a great fitting bikini that you cannot get anywhere else. That is what sets Jypsea suits apart from mainstream brands.

It doesn’t make sense. Broward has 23 miles of beaches, and zillions of swimming pools. Yet, we buy swim suits at chain stores as if we lived in Oklahoma. If you are looking for a conservative suit, this is not the store for you. Jypsea suits are sexy, fun, and intentionally revealing.

I am living my dream designing and manufacturing these swimsuits. The Dolphins cheerleaders did a fashion show in my suits when they unveiled their calendar. The W Hotel offered their guests a fashion show featuring my swimsuits. I have a booth at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The ideas I get make an endless amount of work for me. But it is my work, and that is a whole different deal from working for someone else.”

You can check out some of Stefanie’s swimsuit designs and other products on the Jypsea Local website. But trust us, it’s definitely more fun to go see her at the store!
