Gail’s Story

“My four sons grew up eating my ‘from scratch’ house specialties of fish tacos with a special black pepper-lime-onion white sauce and German chocolate cake.

Now that the boys are grown, my specialties are my ‘from scratch’ all-natural bug repellant and an all-natural shower scrub. It’s exciting for me to hear from happy parents who put my chemical-free repellent on their kids. That is why I created it, I didn’t want chemicals on my boys.

I also created the shower scrub because commercial scrubs were so expensive. I swim in the ocean off Dania Beach and at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center pools where I am on the masters swim team. Go Swim Fort Lauderdale! After swimming, my skin needs intense moisture so I created the scrub for myself.

Making and selling my spray and my scrub is a retirement project for me. All those years as a deckhand on dive boats, more years at Port Everglades bringing in the ships and pulling on ropes… those were very physical jobs. For 45 years I also taught swimming to kids and adults. I am in the water a lot.

Now I have a business of my own. It makes me smile to work from home and have my LLC, the beginnings of a website and a federal tax ID number. After all these years, I now work my schedule around my swims.”

Gail sells her bug repellant and scrub at the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood.

The Treasures in Gail’s Bag

“The stained bag was given to me by a friend who is battling cancer and I want to keep it just like it is.

The amber jewelry is for Jade in honor of her late sister named Amber. It’s in my bag so i can give it to her when I see her.

I use lots of lip gloss, and I never go out without my sunglasses and wallet.”
